What is Positive Intelligence (PQ)®?

The Positive Intelligence (PQ)® program applies the principles of cognitive psychology and neuroplasticity in ways that are closely linked to positive shifts in well-being. It provides the tools and mechanisms for individuals to actively improve their mental health, enhance resilience, and achieve a greater sense of overall satisfaction in life. It was developed by Shirzad Chamine, a Stanford lecturer and author.

Cognitive Psychology

  1. Cognitive Behavioral Techniques: Cognitive psychology forms the basis of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), a highly effective treatment for various mental health issues. CBT works by changing negative thought patterns (cognitions) and behaviors, leading to improvements in mood and well-being.

  2. Mindfulness and Awareness: Cognitive approaches often include mindfulness techniques, helping individuals become more aware of their thoughts and feelings. This awareness is crucial for identifying and altering detrimental patterns.

  3. Problem-Solving Skills: Cognitive psychology equips individuals with problem-solving skills, enhancing their ability to cope with life's challenges and reducing feelings of helplessness and stress.

Neuroplasticity

  1. Brain's Adaptability: Neuroplasticity refers to the brain's ability to reorganize itself by forming new neural connections. This adaptability is fundamental to recovery from brain injury and coping with mental health issues.

  2. Formation of Positive Habits: By repeatedly practicing new, healthy thought patterns and behaviors, individuals can strengthen neural pathways that support these patterns. Over time, this leads to sustained changes in behavior and thought processes.

  3. Stress and Anxiety Reduction: Neuroplasticity allows for the development of more effective coping mechanisms. This can lead to a reduction in symptoms of anxiety and stress, contributing to overall well-being.

Positive Outcomes in Well-Being

  1. Improved Mental Health: By employing cognitive and neuroplastic techniques, individuals can see significant improvements in mental health conditions like anxiety, depression, and stress-related disorders.

  2. Enhanced Resilience: These approaches foster resilience, enabling individuals to better handle life's adversities and bounce back more quickly from setbacks.

  3. Greater Life Satisfaction: With improved coping skills and a more positive mindset, individuals often report higher levels of life satisfaction and happiness.

  4. Stronger Relationships: Cognitive psychology and neuroplasticity not only benefit the individual but also improve interpersonal relationships. Better communication, empathy, and understanding lead to healthier and more fulfilling relationships.
